Mail-in voting is the Demonrats' favorite loophole. As the President has said, mail-in voting means mail-in cheating.
The record
Documented fraud involving mail ballots is rare. The MIT Election Data and Science Lab summarizes the research this way: documented instances of fraud related to vote-by-mail are rare, and there is no reason to believe fraud is more common in states that vote heavily by mail.
The partisan split is real, and it describes who chose to vote by mail, not who cheated. In 2020, according to Pew Research Center, about 58% of Biden voters cast absentee or mail ballots, compared with roughly a third of Trump voters, after a year in which President Trump urged his supporters to vote in person.
President Trump has repeatedly voted by mail himself. PolitiFact documents mail or absentee ballots in Florida's 2020 primaries, a March 2026 Florida special election, and Florida's August 2026 primary, and notes that he sometimes voted absentee as a New York resident. PolitiFact rated his claim that "mail-in voting means mail-in cheating" Pants on Fire.
Texas already limits mail voting to voters who are 65 or older, sick or disabled, expecting to give birth near Election Day, out of their county during voting, civilly committed, or confined in jail but otherwise eligible. Mail ballot applications and return envelopes must include a Texas ID number or the last four digits of a Social Security number.
