Sharia Threat Assessment
Texas will not live under Sharia law.
The record
Texas is governed by the U.S. Constitution and the Texas Constitution. Religious law of any faith has no authority over Texas courts or government, and the First Amendment protects the right of people of every religion to practice their faith.
Muslims make up about 1 percent of the U.S. population. As a Cato Institute commentary by Mustafa Akyol put it, fearing Sharia rule in America is "highly far-fetched."
Governor Greg Abbott posted on February 24, 2025 that "Sharia law is not allowed in Texas." In 2025 he signed House Bill 4211, which he described as banning "Sharia compounds" in connection with EPIC City, a proposed Muslim community near Dallas. The law regulates how business entities disclose what buyers are purchasing; EPIC's developer said it did not change anything about the project.
The Command is marching to the Capitol to demand something the Governor has already announced. That is the joke.
Greg Abbott is a real official with no connection to this project, and the project takes no position in any race on the 2026 ballot.
