Hall of Heroes: Ken Paxton
Ken Paxton is an American hero and visionary who has brought Texas into the 21st century.
The record
Ken Paxton has been attorney general of Texas since 2015. In 2026 he won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, defeating incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in a May 26 runoff, and faces Democrat James Talarico on November 3, 2026.
He was indicted on state securities fraud charges in 2015. In March 2024 he resolved the case through a pretrial intervention agreement, without a plea or admission of wrongdoing, agreeing to pay about $271,000 in restitution, perform 100 hours of community service, and complete 15 hours of legal ethics courses.
In May 2023 the Texas House impeached him, 121 to 23, on 20 articles largely concerning his relationship with donor Nate Paul. The Texas Senate acquitted him on all articles in September 2023. He was only the third official in Texas history to face an impeachment trial.
In April 2025 a Travis County judge awarded $6.6 million to four former top aides who had reported him to federal authorities and were fired. Paxton called the ruling bogus and said he would appeal.
In December 2020 he filed Texas v. Pennsylvania, asking the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out the electoral votes of four states. The Court declined to hear it for lack of standing. He spoke at the rally in Washington on January 6, 2021.
His office's election integrity unit spent more than 22,000 staff hours on the 2020 election and closed 16 cases, all involving false addresses on voter registrations in Harris County, according to the Houston Chronicle.
In December 2023 his office fought to stop Kate Cox, a Dallas woman whose pregnancy had a fatal fetal diagnosis, from obtaining an abortion, and warned hospitals they could face liability. The Texas Supreme Court ruled against her.
